Sweet and Spicy Roasted Broccoli

This recipe is so yummy I could honestly eat the whole batch (which is, um, 4 servings) and it’s a fantastic side to family dinner. This is also an awesome dish to serve at a dinner party or for the holidays.

I love broccoli. It’s easily one of my favorite vegetables because it’s so versatile. You can prepare it to work with any dish or cuisine and it’s loaded with folate, vitamin K, vitamin C, potassium and fiber. This cruciferous vegetable, and all other green leaf vegetables, is extremely cancer protective and are a very important in your diet regularly. 

I chose the maple syrup for its rich flavor, but agave or honey would also be delicious. This is a vegan friendly dish that is low calorie, low fat and low carb. Enjoy it!

Sweet and Spicy Roasted Broccoli

  • 1 lb broccoli florets
  • 1 tbsp garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp salt


  • Preheat the oven to 400F. Wash the broccoli florets place in a large bowl
  • Mix the garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, chili powder, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, salt, and maple syrup and pour over the broccoli florets
  • Add the broccoli to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and spread out evenly (note, two sheets may be needed if there is overlap)
  • Place the baking sheet on the middle rack and roast for 20 minutes, or until the edges of the broccoli are crispy. Serve warm and enjoy!
